Reflection
1. My project is two shadow boxes covered with pictures of camp and my mission trip to the Ukraine. I used two different sized shadow boxes that I got from Target a long, long time ago, pictures I printed off of my computer, mod podge, and an exacto knife. It took me about two weeks to complete this project.
2. I think the strong part of this project is that it is really personal to me and it brings a lot of memories. I think that the exactness of the edges is really done well. The clean edges really brings a neat aspect to all of the clutter of the photos.
3. I think that I could have thought out which pictures I was going to use more carefully. That would have made the process go quicker and just would have made things overall better.
4. The theme of this project is memories. I have the camp shadow box that portrays all of my memories from my years as a camper at Hidden Acres and I also have the Ukraine shadow box that represents things from the Ukraine and the trips that I have gone on there. I think the deep, deep meaning of all of this is faith. Camp is a great place to go to grow in your faith and Ukraine is a great place to go to share your faith.
5. Two important elements that I used on this project were texture and shape. I ripped all of the edges of the photos instead of cutting them in a staight line because it does add texture and it makes it more intresting. The mod podge that covers all of the pictures also gives it a nice texture. The use of shape was really important in this project as well. Because I ripped all of the edges, no two pictrues were the same shape. It was kind of like a huge puzzle trying to figure out which pictures would fit best where.
6. Some principles that I used in this project were unity, contrast, and movement. Unity is best used in the individual boxes. All of the pictures tie together to either represent camp or Ukraine. Contrast is also huge. If you look at the two boxes side by side, they look so so different. The camp one has lots of reds, oranges, and skin tones. The Ukraine one has lots of blues, greys, and browns. Movement is very well used in this project because everyone wants to look and see what each picture is.
7. I learned that things don't always have to be perfect. None of the pictures are perfectly torn and none of the pictures are perfect or professionally taken. This thinking can be applied to other projects and hopefully help me come to grips that no project should and can ever be perfect.
