*December Reflection*
1. My project for this month was a series of canvases with four different colors of buttons on them. I bought three bags mixed colors of blue, pink, yellow, and green buttons, then I sorted out the different colors. I then glued them onto the canvases with a hot glue gun and later added decorative flowers. This project was pretty tedious and probably took my about two or three weeks to make. the part that probably took the longest was sorting out the different colors! After that, things went pretty quick.
2. I think that a strong part of my project is that it is a series and I think that adds a little more emphasis to each individual one because since they are all very similar, you tend to look more for the differences between them. I think that the consistency of each canvas was done well.
3. I think that I could have done a better job of keeping the hot glue strings off of myself and also the buttons. It look pretty bad with all of the strings on it but after I got them off, it looked a lot better.
4. When making this project, I didn't really think much of it having a deeper meaning than buttons glued to a canvas. Now, I think that I am going to give my project to my grandma for her birthday. My grandma is a very active quilter/sewer so she uses a lot of buttons. She taught me how to sew and to fix my shirt if a button fell off so I suppose that could be a deeper meaning.
5. One element that I used was texture. Since all of the buttons stick out a little, it feels really cool! You can see how the project is very three dimensional. Another element that I used was color. Each canvas has its own specific color scheme but they also have a white or off-white flower glued in the corner. I think that the white flower really makes the color of the buttons pop and catches people's eyes.
6. A principle that I used was unity, as I talked to Mr. Purdy about what principles he thought were the strongest in my project he suggested unity and rhythm. Unity is strong because my project as a whole would not be as strong if it was just one canvas, the whole series is what makes it strong. Rhythm was also a strong principle in my project because the same idea repeats itself onto each canvas but they are all different.
7. One thing that I learned from this project was perseverance. There were a lot of times where I was simply tired of gluing button after button, but I kept going because I knew that it would look really nice when it was all done.
