Reflections
1) My project for this month is a clay teapot. I used a grey clay rather than red clay. (To be honest, I don't really know what the difference is. One is more grey in color and the other is more red. Seems good enough to me.) At this point in time, (September 30, 2012), the teapot is not fired yet and i have not done any exceeding things but I still do plan to do that. I started this project in the first few days of September. Clay is somewhat difficult to time out because of the firing and glazing steps.
2) I think that a strong part of my teapot is that it is very unique. If you were to look at a classic teapot and set it next to mine, they would look very diffetent. One thing that I did well on this project was making sure that it would be able to function. After having the teapot break several times, I was determinded to make it work and work well.
3) I think that I could have managed my time better with this project. I wasn't really aware of all of the things that could and did go wrond with my project. So, if I had given myself a better time frame, I wouldn't be waiting to fire it now.
4) I guess you could say that the theme is memories. When I was a little girl, my grandma and I would always have tea parties with her pretty teacups and teapots. I wanted to make a teapot and then give it to my grandma because she still enjoys having tea a lot and has tea parties with my little cousin Kylie. I think it shows memory because the teapot itslef is symbolic of the great times I had with my grandma but the modern twist shows how we have grown up but still share a strong relationship.
5) I used form a lot in this project since it is a three-dimensional project. You can look at it from a lot of different angles and I portray that somewhat in the pictures I post on here. Texture was also a big part of this project. I really wanted the teapot to be smooth in it's texture because nobody wants a scratchy teapot.
6) Contrast is a huge principal that was used in this project. There are some very modern things about the teapot but there are also some traditional specks like the lid. The balance of this teapot is pretty asyemtrical. The handle of the teapot really shows that a lot.
7) I learned a lot about frustration when making this teapot. It broke not once, not twice, but three times on me. It was really dissapointing and frustrating but once I got some encourageing words and wisdom from Mr. Purdy, I really buckled down and completed it. I am really happy with how it turned out.
